What to Expect from HTC Sense 4.0?

Tim Cook Responds to Allegations of Mistreatment of Workers in China

This morning the New York Times published a lengthy and detailed report about the harsh working conditions in factories producing supplies or assembly of the Apple devices. Tim Cook has stepped in with an email sent to all employees to respond to the allegations received.

The Times report includes this chilling opening:

The explosion broke out during the construction of the A5 chips on a Friday last May, an eruption of fire and noise that has bent metal tubes as they were of straw. When the workers ran outside, saw the black smoke out the windows shattered. This occurred in the area where thousands of workers polish every day thousands of iPad.

The report also recalls an occasion when a factory has had to call the parents of a young worker to inform them of his son's admission to hospital. They also mentioned working grueling hours with excessive overtime, as well as a quote from a former executive Foxconn gruesome: "Apple has never worried about anything except to increase product quality and lower production costs" .Besides all this, the report discloses statement of former Apple executives, such as this quote: "We heard about labor abuses in some factories for four years, and these are still ongoing" .

The Apple CEO Tim Cook, has sent a long letter to all its employees, almost a direct response to recent reports of mistreatment of Chinese workers.

Here is the message sent by Cook:

As a company and as individuals, we are defined by our values. Unfortunately some people are questioning Apple’s values today, and I’d like to address this with you directly. We care about every worker in our worldwide supply chain. Any accident is deeply troubling, and any issue with working conditions is cause for concern. Any suggestion that we don’t care is patently false and offensive to us. As you know better than anyone, accusations like these are contrary to our values. It’s not who we are. For the many hundreds of you who are based at our suppliers’ manufacturing sites around the world, or spend long stretches working there away from your families, I know you are as outraged by this as I am. For the people who aren’t as close to the supply chain, you have a right to know the facts.

Cook goes on to say that we should also inform employees of their rights, so that they can enforce them in conditions where they are not respected. In fact, many workers would not be aware of the legal actions that could be launched in cases of abuse or exploitation inadequate.

Working conditions in China are really inhumane and words of Tim Cook we hope for tighter controls that can improve the work in factories like Foxconn.

Google is still trying to get its Google TV project to become more attractive to mainstream consumers. The effort to merge televisions with a Google-developed operating system has so far only brought in two hardware partners. One is Sony, who put Google TV inside three models of its Bravia TV line. The other is Logitech, which created the Revue set-top box with the operating system inside. Sales for both companies have not been up to expectations. Google has been promising a major update for Google TV devices for a while but so far it has yet to be released.

This week, Zatsnotfunny.com has posted up some new screenshots showing off the new user interface of Google TV 2.0. As promised, this new version is based on Google's Android 3.1 operating system, also known as Honeycomb. It will allow Google TV owners to download and use a number of new apps, including the Wall Street Journal and more. Google TV owners can also rate the apps they use just like their Android app counterparts.

Google has announced it is seeking more hardware partners for Google TV, but so far the company has yet to reveal any new companies that will offer Google TV on their products. There's also no word on when the big 2.0 update will actually be released, although it should be any day now. Google's executive chairman Eric Schmidt recently affirmed the company's support for Google TV, saying, "We're absolutely committed to staying, to improving Google TV."

How’s your iPhone 4S release day going so far? Did you get the iPhone you wanted, were you disappointed, or did you decide to skip this release entirely? Some people had decided that the iPhone 4S just wasn’t a huge enough leap over their existing iPhones, to warrant the considerable outlay that would be needed if they were to bite the bullet and jump to an iPhone 4S.

So is the iPhone 4S actually worth upgrading to, or have we all spend out money on what is effectively the same phone we bought last year?

Obviously, there’s the improved 8 megapixel camera, which offers improved shots in both good and bad light conditions. Then there is Siri, Apple’s take on the digital virtual assistant that has us all talking to our phones as if there’s a little person inside.

But what about the less tangible changes? The iPhone 4S sports a dual-core A5 CPU, the same as the one powering Apple’s mighty iPad 2. While that may not mean much to the layman, people like their iPhones to be faster than the one they just upgraded from.

So the question there has to be – is the iPhone 4S noticeably faster than the iPhone 4, and iPhone 3GS? The answer to that question comes in the form of another video from our very own Steven Chi, where he compares just those three handsets across a variety of simple, admittedly un-scientific, tests.

As is to be expected, the iPhone 4S comes out on top in Steven’s tests, with the downloading and rendering of web pages noticeably being snappy. For those wondering just how much faster than its predecessor the iPhone 4S is, this video may well help to push you toward getting the credit card out. Spoiler: it’s faster!

Another good demonstration of the iPhone 4S’ speed is the newly re-coded Camera app. Now, we don’t find ourselves stood waiting for the shutter screen to go away before we can take the next shot. It’s not quite instantaneous, but it is noticeably quicker than we are used to. It isn’t shown in Steven’s video, but accessing the camera app from the iPhone’s lockscreen – new in iOS 5 – is extremely quick. No more missing those shots because your subject has wandered off, anymore!

Give the video a watch and make your own mind up, but we think the iPhone 4S is a worthy successor to the iPhone 4, and that’s before you take Siri into the equation!

Presentation Style of Apple New CEO Tim Cook

Last Tuesday during the event "Let's talk iPhone" was the first time that the new Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, had the opportunity to lead the presentation of the main products of Apple. Nick Wingfield of the Ney York Times, commented on the different style of presentation of Cook in blog Bits. Let's see some of his notes.

Former Apple evangelist, now a venture capitalist for an American company, Guy Kawasaki appeared to criticise the style of Cook in his personal blog. In the post titled "what I learned from Steve Jobs", Kawasaki explains everything he has learned from the great guru and in chapter "Real CEOs demo", explains that a real CEO performs multiple demonstrations of its products without any problem, ironically on the fact that Tim Cook has not submitted any product will even run tests.

The objection of Kawasaki move to Tim is leaving its team presentation and demonstration of their products. Is it not reasonable to believe that he's done to demonstrate that there is a real team work at Apple? According to Kawasaki, Cook, would leave the proof to their kids because in reality did not understand fully what his company is creating. Don't you find it pathetic?

Apple reported that pre-orders for the new iPhone 4S have exceeded the million units in a single day, surpassing the previous record held by iPhone 4 (600,000 units).

Phil Schiller said in a press release:

We are very proud of the amazing response of customers for the iPhone 4S, did not expect to beat so quickly the previous record of iPhone 4. In only 24 hours were sold over a million units and no new product Apple never had reached such numbers.
